Training and pruning your fan tree is important to help keep its shape and ensure it stays nice and productive. Tie in new side shoots to your framework each summer, and remove congested, diseased or damaged branches. Cut away any branches pointed in towards your fence or wall, and cut back any branches pointing directly outwards back to roughly three leaves beyond the basal cluster
